I was giddy with the idea of pirates. They were the overly romanticized, misunderstood bad boys that still had women swooning even in the 21st century. I knew the stereotype was nothing like reality, but I couldn’t help my anticipation for our adventure.

We made our way along the Mysterious River throughout the morning. It was beautiful, like everything else in Neverland. The river was crystal clear, with varying shades of blue and green as it meandered around rock outcroppings. Exotic birds, in rainbow colors, flew in and out of the lush, green canopies surrounding the riverbanks. The river itself was filled with colorful fish, and we even caught sight of pink dolphins as they breached the water’s surface.

I tried to focus on the beauty of everything around me rather than focus on the deteriorating mood that was washing over the group. We all remained fairly silent, except for the tinkling coming from Lill. The boy’s moods had started off fun and excited, but quickly began to change to somber and irritable as she tinkled on, and I could only assume that she was going off about me.

“Lill, can you just shut the fuck up already, we get that you don’t like her. No need to keep carrying on about it,” Ryder finally snapped.

Lill stopped and glared at him, her whole body glowing red in her irritation, but her silence only lasted a moment before she started chiming in again.

Tripp leaned in toward me, “She said that you…”

“No, I don’t want to know what she said! I’m perfectly happy not knowing what she is saying. I would prefer to continue to ignore her,” I stated plainly, trying not to let my frustrations get the better of me.

Lill was always trying to sabotage my time with the boys and it was irritating as fuck. Then I heard the soft poof, followed by a slight gust of wind as Lill transformed into her human body. I stared at her perfect form and my jaw dropped a little. I had known she was beautiful, but I saw her differently now, knowing she had been with all of my boys. She knew them all, intimately, in a way that I didn’t. They had taken their pleasures from her, and she from them. I felt that irrational jealousy swell up inside me and I could feel my hands fisting at my sides.

“Try and ignore me now, Gwen.” She exaggerated my name as she said her snarky come back.

“That’s enough, Lill. Let’s just keep moving. We’ve got a lot of ground to cover,” Peter interjected, a scowl on his face as he glared at her.

Lill remained in her human form as we pressed on, and she was quiet—for a little while anyway. I thought maybe Peter’s rebuke had worked to shut her up, but she just couldn’t help herself.

“Have you guys been wondering why she wants to see pirates so badly?” No one answered her, but she didn’t need them to answer for her to continue. “You
